Becontree Brassband

About us

Becontree Brass Band is 1st Section band located on the border of East London and Essex. The band rehearses on Monday evenings in Barkingside.

Our members come from all over London - Barkingside is on the Central line - and have a wide range of backgrounds in brass playing.

The band was formed in 1982 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

As well as concerts in the local area, Becontree also takes part in the National Brass Band Championships, competing the London and Southern Counties area, as well as taking part in several local contests. 2007 also saw the band compete in the Mineworkers contest for the first time, held at Butlins in Skegness.

The band have recently taken part in a recording for Channel 4 television in an original composition by composer Benjamin Till.

Richard Marshall and David Thornton from Black Dyke Band join Becontree for concert

On 16 November, Richard Marshall, principal cornet and David Thornton, principal euphonium of Black Dyke will join Becontree for a special concert in Barnardo's Church, Barkingside.

Becontree come fourth at Folkestone

Becontree competed at the SCABA contest in Folkestone on 19 October, and came a very creditable 4th place. Graham Chambers won the Conductors Prize.

Becontree come 10th at the Regional contest
